Want to burn more fat and build lean muscle? Stop jogging!

That’s right stop jogging. When did jogging become the standard in fitness?

In the 60’s 70’s or 80’s. Just because everyone does it doesn’t make it right.

Here’s a question. If you are a runner have you achieved the results of a
lean muscular body?  I’m not talking about weight loss, I’m talking fat loss.

All most all runners are thin and weak. Long distance runners or joggers
are wasting valuable time, if their goal is health and fitness and fat loss.

If you notice I keep saying fat loss and not weight loss, why? Because
everyone is concerned with weight loss and weight loss is not the answer.

Just because you lose 20lbs doesn’t mean you will look much different.
You can lose muscle and still have fat but you should be shooting for
fat loss instead of weight loss.

Long distance running beats the body down. If you run to much your
body with start to use muscle for energy instead of fat. The less muscle
you have the less fat you will burn. The more muscle you have the more
fat you will burn.

When you start a running program you love it, then as time goes on you
find it starts to take a lot of time and you need to go farther to get results
then eventually no matter what you try the results stop. Why? Your body
will no longer respond to this type of exercise, it’s got you figured out
it knows your trying to lose fat and we are engineered to save fat so the
body will start to use other things as fuel such as muscle.

You need to confuse your body, trick it to keep getting results. The more
muscles you use the more efficient you’re your body will burn fat. Running
uses mostly the legs, some core and a little bit arms.

Most runners suffer from all sorts of pain, foot, back, knee, ankle and shin splints
just to name the most injured.  So why do you run in the name of fitness?

To get the most benefit and the quickest results is to use exercise that use
as many muscles as possible at the same time, the more you use the fast
the results and the faster will fly off. However, if you eat like garbage you will
never get the results your after.

If you want to run try short sprints, short sprinting will build lean muscle
and burn fat, most sprinters are lean and muscular. Short sprints can be
from 5 seconds to 30 seconds you can even try 1 to 2 minutes sprints if
you can.

Hill sprints will even hit the body a little harder, these are serious fat burners.
if you can’t find a hill try running stairs also a great muscle builder and fat
burner.

Bodyweight training is another way to build lean muscle and strip the fat.
Bodyweight training uses a lot of muscles at one time so you can spend less
time exercising.

Jumping rope is one of the best exercises you can do to become physically fit,
become more athletic, build agility and coordination, jumping rope works
many more muscles then jogging. If you don’t keep your torso upright and
straight you will not be able to jump rope long without missing.

Try a workout of bodyweight training, jumping rope, short sprints and
hill sprints and I guarantee you will be blown away with the results.

You can try this short workout and see for yourself:

Find a space like a football field or soccer field and mark of 40 to
50 yards.

Start with 10 pushups- from the pushup position sprint 50 yards
do 25 jumping jacks – Sprint back the 50 yards and drop for another
10 pushups and continue this 10 times rest 2 minutes and repeat
again. You can do it longer if you want but try it one to two times.

Finish with 200 pushups and 250 jumping jacks and a lot of short
sprinting you can probably finish this quicker than running 3 miles.

How you start the day will determine how the day goes. If you start
the day with exercise your day will be super-charged. For you
that don’t have time to exercise get up 15 minutes earlier and
start to sweat.

For over 20 years I have trained before work and the results and benefits are amazing,
not to mention the attitude knowing that the hardest part of the days done. You don’t
have to worry about going to the gym or if you will have time to train, your done. Now you
can do the other things that need to get done.

Try the early morning workout and I promise the day will seem to be a lot more productive.

Fat Ass Gym Teachers

We have a problem with childhood obesity, and it’s only getting worse. Who’s
fault is it? Ours. The parents, how about the the fat ass gym teachers in the
schools. You know the saying ” Do as I say not as I do”.

I don’t really remember a real fit gym teacher, I know when my kids
where in school they weren’t fit. So how can people expect kids to listen
to a gym teacher that’s fat.

These gym teachers are supposed to set an example and they don’t, these
teachers should be able to do the same thing they have kids do.

If the the teacher tells the kid to run a mile he or she better be able to do it,
or if the kids are doing pushups, how many can you do? And their waist should
never be bigger then the length of their pants, you know something like a
38″ / 30″ or 36″/30 got it.

If you look like a bowling ball and waddle when you walk get a job in the school
cafeteria and leave the phys-ed to men and women that are fit.

Building Explosive bodyweight Strength

Building Explosive bodyweight  Strength

Johnny Grube doing explosive plyometric pushup burpees

Building explosive bodyweight strength isn’t complicated. It’s more about taking
a simple approach to your training and not over thinking your training. This above
exercise is a great way to build a little explosive power into your workout.

Doing workouts like the one in the video will build strength throughout the
entire body. This is the type of strength you want to build. This strength will
help you in all areas of your fitness. I doesn’t matter what you do or what
sport you play you need explosive power and a strong body.

You can use almost anything to do this exercise. You can use cement blocks
bricks, books I was using to rubber maid stools.

A 100 lb heavy bag and a mountain – Functional strength

Functional strength seems to be on a lot of peoples minds, for the
level fitness they believe they will get from this type of training.

I put a new video up showing an exercise you can do using a heavy
bag in the video I use a 100 lb heavy bag. I like to use heavy bags
because it takes a lot more to control then a sand bag. A heavy bag is
hard to get a hold of, a sand bag you can get some kind of grip a
heavy bag is tougher to handle.

If you think using a heavy bag for resistance isn’t tough use it, try to
handle it as you become more tired and you can’t seem to get a hold
of it. Try carrying one of these on your shoulder for a mile or carry it
up a hill or like I did up a rocky covered mountain.

I carried it up the mountain without putting it down once, then I showed
a quick exercise you could do then I had to walk back down the mountain
with the 100 lb heavy bag to the car without putting it down.

You may think that walking down the hill is easier, but you need to be able to control
the weight of the bag and watch where you step, it’s tough. But it builds real
functional strength.

Carrying a heavy bag on your shoulder is tough because of the shear bulk a
sand bag conforms to your shoulder and will just stay there, a heavy bag will
roll off your shoulder meaning you need to keep it up on your shoulder with
strength if you relax it will roll off.

And carrying 80 to 100 lbs on your shoulder is a lot different then carrying a back
pack with weight in it

Use your environment as your training ground, and see the level of fitness you can
build just by getting a little nuts and doing things different then everyone else.

Like I said train like everyone else and get the same results that everyone else gets.

Johnny Grube on top the mountain- Who wants to climb up here and knock me off?

You can get an idea how high I am by looking at the view, and the wind. It was real tough climbing
I was beat.
