What’s the secret to real functional strength?

Do you think there is a secret to real functional strength? Let’s look at how
most men get into shape and get strong. They go to the gym and spend a
couple of hours doing curls in front of a mirror, bench pressing and
working their abs.

Are they getting stronger? Probably. But what type of strength are they
developing? Most men are building gym only strength. What is gym only
strength? It’s strength that’s only useful in the gym. It’s for looks only.

Now don’t get me wrong, there are a lot of very strong men but the
majority of men in gyms are going through the motions and doing
a bunch of exercises that will never build any real strength.

Real functional strength is built over many years of regular training
it’s not built training once in a while. It’s just like anything else, the
more you put in the more you get out.

Training your body from different angles and using your body as
one is how you generate real strength. You can’t isolate muscles
and expect to build real body strength; you need to train the body
as a whole and when you learn how to utilize this principal you will
be able to build a strong body.

Many men that train for gym strength usually get a lot of
injuries because the way they train. Their bodies are
usually only strong in a few areas, To build strength
that is useful you have to train to be fit and strong.

That’s why I’m so dedicated to using bodyweight training as
my way of staying fit and functionally strong. In my opinion for
overall functional fitness and athleticism, bodyweight training
is the way I would go.

Try this little test of strength.

Find a place where you have about 50 yards; next get in a pushup position facing
across the field. Now move laterally moving your feet and hands the same time
every time you  move your hands you do 1 pushup then move your hands and feet one
more space and do another pushup and so on until you cover as much of the 50 yards
that you can. This will have you shaking inside of a couple of minutes. Try it let me know
how your whole body is effected.
